We found a way around BoehnerThursday, October 10, 2013
(AFSCME Council 26)
Speaker John Boehner is blocking a vote to end
the shutdown by insisting that
there aren't enough votes to do so. Everyone
else knows that there are.
Luckily, there is a way around Speaker Boehner.
This Saturday October 12th, your Representative has a chance to sign a Discharge Petition. When a Discharge Petition hits 218 signatures, the House can bypass Speaker Boehner and force an up or down vote to reopen the government.
You only have two days left to call your Representatives (see phone numbers below) and ask them to sign the Discharge Petition. If it is after hours leave a voice mail message.
This is our chance to end the government shutdown. But time is ticking fast. We need everyone calling their Representatives from now until Saturday. Whether your Representative is a Democrat or a Republican he or she needs to be urged to sign the Discharge Petition.
The Discharge Petition is our current best shot at ending the shutdown, getting back to work, and getting paid. In the past 30 years, 19 Discharge Petitions have been attempted. And it has worked every time. This is democracy. Please call today.
IMPORTANT: We encourage you take action on this critical issue, but you should do so only on your own time, using a non-governmental computer, outside of any work area. This information should not be downloaded or printed using government equipment, read during duty time or sent to others using government equipment, because it suggests action to be taken in support of and/or against legislation.
