Unions send letter to Vice-President Biden

(Council 26)

Seventeen unions representing federal workers, including AFSCME, have sent a letter to Vice-President Biden who is currently negotiating a deal on the debt ceiling with a bipartisan group of lawmakers. The unions have heard that the group is very close to an agreement that would significantly increase what federal employees pay for their pensions essentially what amounts to almost a 6% pay cut.  They wont tax the rich and big corporations but they will cut the pay of workers. The letter urges the Vice-President to oppose this proposal and to publicly reject those who express anti-government hatred as a pretext for shifting money from the hard-working middle class that has endured the brunt of this terrible recession, to the wealthy, well-connected, powerful, and greedy investment class that created it.
